Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
For years, the Fourth of July meant the neighborhood parade. Complete with marching boy scouts, the local high school band, firemen throwing candy from their truck, a troupe of swim-team moms dancing with plastic lawn chairs, and the "White Scottish Highland Terrier Brigade" (complete with bagpipes!) it has always been a patriotic take on "Keep Austin Weird", our un-official motto down here. This year marks the 37th annual Northwest Hills Fourth of July Parade, sponsored by the neighborhood civic association, and I'm thrilled that the parade has grown big enough to get featured on the local news!
I fondly remember so many Fourth of July's where my sister and I would deck out our bikes in red, white, and blue streamers and ride in the parade, and then go home and grill burgers with some family friends. What are your Fourth of July traditions?
