I grew up in a fantastic, family-friendly neighborhood (home of the July 4th parade!). It was a perfect place to grow up - big yards, a nearby library, public pool, restaurants, and, in the Texas summer, the all-important snow cone shack (more on that later!). Here's what the local newspaper had to say about my old stomping ground. I'm glad they love it as much as I do!
Northwest Hills
It's like a scene in a movie - long, paved residential streets lined by perfect, new-looking concrete curbs, tall trees hanging high overhead. It helps that some neighborhoods have identical mailboxes in front of each house and matching trim white garages attached to each home.
Children and parents play outdoors underneath the hot Texas sun, darting in and out of the shade.

Maybe it's because of the weather, a perfect Austin summer afternoon. Maybe it's just the gorgeous views winding through the trees and the hills. Or maybe it's just really that wonderful of a place.
It's peaceful in Northwest Hills, serene, yet bustling with activity. Busy main streets carry heavier traffic to and fro, while quiet neighborhoods lay sleepily on the sides. Shops and restaurants galore tactfully intersperse blocks of homes, offices and apartments.
This neighborhood is one of Austin's most organized, combining residences with retail offices simply and gracefully. There are no potholes, or patchy streets, no confusing one-way roads.

Anderson High School
Located between Spicewood Springs Road, Mesa Drive and Far West Boulevard, Northwest Hills is a gem of a neighborhood just outside of central Austin. Residents have easy access to Mopac, U.S. 183 and Loop 360, as well as a variety of other local options. The Arboretum is just a stone's throw away.
Some of Austin's favorite restaurants are right in the area. If it's a pizza night, call Mangia for their famous Chicago-style pizza. If it's a fast-food night, head right over to Wally's for some burgers and fries. If it's a night out on the town, dress to impress and visit the well-known fine dining favorite Mirabelle.
Judy DeWitt, Coldwell Banker Realtor, says great schools and excellent location make Northwest hills a neighborhood of choice for many people. "It's beautiful, with great views and beautiful trees," she says. "It's an excellent location."

This may explain the multitude of neighborhoods in the area, and so many homes placed up for sale. It may also explain the wide variety of homes available, from smaller two-stories to sprawling, custom-designed homes.
It also helps that there are a number of choices to choose from for anyone looking for a home. Whether it means renting or buying, there is something for everyone.

The University of Texas operates a bus shuttle to Far West Boulevard to serve the student population living in apartment complexes along Far West Boulevard, Hart Land and Wood Hollow Drive.
Children in the neighborhood attend Doss and Hill Elementary School, Murchison Middle School and Anderson High School. Utilities are provided by the city.
