My chapter's house, in the 1930's |
After the "hurrication" (three cancelled days of class), my campus is finally starting the annual, time-honored tradition of SORORITY RUSH. It seems like a long, arbitrary process for choosing new members for your organization, and every school does it a little differently, but sorority rush is one of my favorite times of the year. Although it always has its's upsets and awkward moments, you sorority girls out there will miss it when you're gone! As a senior, I'm looking at it pretty nostalgically. Here is what I like, and will miss, about sorority rush.
- Super-intense bonding. You spend so much time with girls that you don't necessarily know very well (at first), but by the end of rush you will all know each other like the back of your hands. I felt so much more connected to my sorority sisters after my first recruitment from the sorority side!
- It's a chance to be 110% girly without being at all ashamed.
- You get to meet hundreds of freshman and sophomore girls that you wouldn't know otherwise. I'm still friends with girls I met in other sororities!
- Your small-talk skills you learn for rush will be useful for the rest of your life - seriously.
- You get to welcome new members at the end of it!
